Application Requirements
Eligible Applicants 1: UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS or GRADUATE STUDENTS enrolled at foreign universities who possess high standards of academic performance (GPA score of 3.2 out of 4.0 or more), are fluent in English (TOEFL score of 550 or more if you are a non-native speaker) and will continue their studies at their home universities after finishing the ATW program.
Eligible Applicants 2: JUNIOR RESEARCHERS employed by foreign research institutes, which maintain an academic exchange agreement with Kyushu University, who possess high standards of academic performance, are fluent in English (TOEFL score of 550 or more if you are a non-native speaker) and will continue their research work at their home institutes after finishing the ATW program.

by the deadline set by the ATW Office. The ATW Office

Confirmation for Insurance
Arriving Fukuoka: All ATW students will be asked to arrive at Fukuoka on Saturday, 26 June
2010. Accommodation will be ready from 26 June. Participants
will be offered pickup service by ATW staff and peer tutors for
free of charge.
Leaving Fukuoka: ATW regards your participation
throughout the program, from the
opening ceremony on 28 June to the closing ceremony on 6
August
as essential. Therefore, ATW will ask you NOT to leave Fukouka
before the program completed nor to be absent without authority
of ATW during the program term.

for Participation.
Travel Insurance: Your stay in Japan is not long
enough to buy any Japanese insurance or to receive any medical fee
support for international students. Therefore, you are required
to take out any insurance in your own country before you come to
Kyushu University. As soon as you have bought insurance, please
send a copy of the insurance policy along with Confirmation Form
of Insurance.
Kyushu University shall not bear any responsibility for costs caused by illness, injury and/or death of the students and any other damage that may occur as a result of accident, disaster, or other unexpected@circumstances.
To provide a variety of living circumstances in Japan, three options
will be offered to participants: a) an off-campus accommodation
(a furnished apartment or a dormitory) for 6 weeks, b) home stay
for 6 weeks, or c) a combination of an off-campus accommodation
for the first 4 weeks and home stay for the second 2 weeks. An
off-campus dormitory and home stay includes half board (breakfast
and dinner), while in an off-campus apartment, each room is equipped
with cooking facilities which enable you to cook yourself.

Fees
Tuition fee
88,800 JPY
for taking 3 courses (6 credits), which is the requirement for completing the ATW program.
Accommodation fees
- Estimated costs for staying in a furnished apartment:
(4 weeks) 86,000-96,000 JPY (including room charge and utility
expenses)
(6 weeks) 128,000-145,000 JPY (including room charge and
utility expenses)
- Estimated costs for staying in an off-campus dormitory:
(4 weeks) 54,000-63,000 JPY (including room charge, utility
expenses and meals*)
(6 weeks) 79,200-92,400 JPY (including room charge, utility
expenses and meals*)
*Two meals (breakfast and dinner) are offered everyday
except Sundays and Japanese National holidays.
- Estimated costs for home stay:
(2 weeks) 40,000-50,000 JPY (including lodging and
meals**)
(6 weeks) 100,000-120,000 JPY (including lodging and
meals**)
**Two meals (breakfast and dinner) are offered
for weekdays, while lunch is offered in addition
to
those two meals on weekends when there is no official
class of ATW.
Study trip fees
Several study trips will be held during the program
for your option. Each excursion is planned
in the expectation that students
are able to experience some part of Japanese
culture and the Japanese esthetic sense. The following
study
trips are planned

Estimating costs
for participating in ATW
- 88,800 JPY for tuitio
- 100,000-150,000
JPY for accommodation fee

JPY for commuting expenses (by public
transportation)
- 3,000 JPY for
a Japanese language text book
- 12,000 JPY for
lunch at a university cafeteria (400yen x 30days)
- 27,600 JPY for
three optional study trips
These costs are merely
indicative. Personal expenses and expensese for a round-trip
airline ticket are not included in the costs mentioned
above. If you live in a furnished apartment, breakfast and dinner cost should be added to this estimating costs. If you take a LW course and do research in any of the laboratories
located on the new campus, your commuting expenses cost more than 30,000 yen.
Payment of the fees
Payment of tuition, accommodation fees,
study trip fees will be accepted in cash after arriving
the University or by overseas remittance to our bank.
All payments must be made in Japanese
yen.
Any check will NOT be accepted.
If you would like to pay through overseas remittance (bank transfer),
you are asked to pay at least one month before ATW starts. Please consult the ATW Office for more information.
In case of paying through overseas
remittance,
- You must pay in Japanese yen.
- Any bank charges (including a
2,500 yen Japanese bank charge) must be met by the participant.
- A deposit of 5,000 yen must be included in the payment.
- If your
payment is less than the amount we required due to fluctuations
in the exchange rate or
any other reasons, the shortage will be paid from your deposit
and
the remainder will be refunded when you arrive in Japan.
- In
case of cancellation, tuition, study trip and accommodation
fees will be fully refunded. Any bank charges associated
with the overseasl remittance to refund the fees will be paid from the deposit
of 5,000
yen.
