University Location
Kyushu University is located within Fukuoka City, a thriving, dynamic metropolis of 1.3 million people and a major political, economic, and cultural hub serving Kyushu island and, more broadly, western Japan. Tokyo, Japan’s capital, is 5 hours away by bullet train (known as Shinkansen) and 1.5 hours by airplane. Kyushu’s mild climate, panoramic sea and mountain vistas, pleasing skyline, and friendly people make it an attractive, comfortable place to live.

In October 2005, the relocation to the new Ito Campus began. The engineering-related facilities were relocated in October 2006, and "Center Zone" designed to provide liberal arts education started its operation in April 2009. The relocation project is moving forward at present as well. Kyushu University has facilities and properties that are situated in other areas or prefectures, including forested areas (known as University Forest) maintained by the School of Agriculture in the northern island of Hokkaido.
