留学先大学のサポート体制について

(語学面/勉学面/精神面/住居・生活面など)

The university provides dorms, cafeterias and insurance plan. They are ok, but a bit expensive. You can also find cheap ones outside the university, but it takes energy and time. The office that supports international students is called ISO (International Student Office), located on the 4th floor in the administrative building. You can always find people to help you if you encounter any problems regarding visa or other important issues.

留学先大学に対する感想

University of Washington is a top level university with high academic reputation. The campus is beautiful and there are lots of facilities. I believe that you can maximize your possibilities there. If you want to achieve more at school, you’d better take more participation in class as well as keep touch with the instructors after class. Don’t be shy.

Seattle is called “ever green city”. As it stands, the city is attractive and foreigner friendly.

You might want to bring your umbrella with you, because it rains a lot in winter. But the weather is pretty mild and somehow similar as Fukuoka. You will enjoy there.

As for security, if you choose to live off campus and need to stay until late at school, you can always catch the campus bus which is called “ride night” all around campus. It will take right home.

I also recommend “Wednesday Lunch”. You will meet lots of international students from other countries there. It’s a good place to meet friends. It’s held at 2nd floor in the HUB, 11am-1pm every Wednesday.

Also purchase the “U-pass” as soon as you arrive. You will find it extremely helpful later when you want to travel around the city.

In general, the study schedule keeps students busy in the United States. But you will also enjoy the culture and social events if you manage your time properly. So keep in touch with the local community.

これから留学する人への、日常生活(治安対策を含め)に関するアドバイス

Even though Seattle is a relatively safe city, the security in the United States is not as good as Japan. Be conscious when you walk around downtown and also try not to go out after 10pm at night. If you choose to live around campus, you can always take to school bus to home on weekdays’ nights.

It was cheap. but not in very good condition. There are a lot of units available near the campus. If you decide to save money. Spend some time and you will find it. You can also look it up on the internet.
