NTU-KYUSHU COLLOQUIUM



The NTU–Kyushu Colloquium is held to further promote academic and educational interactions between National Taiwan University (NTU) and Kyushu University.

1st NTU-Kyushu Colloquium

The 1st NTU–Kyushu Colloquium was held December 16 and 17, 2020 in Inamori Hall on Kyushu University’s Ito Campus to further promote academic and educational interactions between National Taiwan University (NTU) and Kyushu U.

Nearly 50 participants, including 15 researchers from NTU, joined the event and shared their expertise and knowledge across disciplines such as forest hydrology, Japanese linguistics and literature, museum studies, education, urban planning, telemedicine, geosciences, and organic electronics.

The colloquium opened with welcome remarks by Vice President Koichiro Watanabe followed by speeches from Executive Vice President Chiapei Chou from NTU and Pierre C.C. Chen, Consul General, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Fukuoka. After that, researchers from both universities introduced their individual research areas and interests. Executive Vice President Makoto Aratono concluded the opening session with an introduction of the Kyushu University Institute for Asian and Oceanian Studies (Q-AOS), which was launched April 2020.

After the opening session, the participants had chances to discuss in more depth at a poster session and parallel sessions in each area.

2nd NTU-Kyushu Colloquium

The 2nd NTU-KYUSHU COLLOQUIUM was held on Monday, June 15, 2021, through online seminars to promote further interaction with NTU. Being held for the second time, it was held as a webinar due to the global outbreak of COVID-19.

The plenary session in the morning opened with welcome remarks by Senior Vice President Koichiro Watanabe followed by remarks from Executive Vice President Chiapei Chou from NTU. Keynote lectures on the topic of online classes were then given by Professor Hsin-Mu Tsai from NTU and Professor Koji Okamura of the Research Institute for Information Technology of Kyushu U. Next, Dr. Lu-Cheng Kuo from NTU and Professor Yoshihide Mori of the Faculty of Dental Science of Kyushu U gave lectures on the theme of telemedicine. In addition, a total of four student representatives, two from each university, made presentations about how their student life experiences have been affected by COVID-19.

The afternoon featured breakout sessions in the ten research fields of forestry, Japanese linguistics and literature, university museums, education, cultural heritage, urban planning, economic and environmental geology, telemedicine, marine ecology, and physical oceanography. In parallel with them, a student forum that provided 20 students from both universities with the opportunity to present their research in English was held.

A part of the colloquium was delivered live on YouTube and was watched by a maximum of 771 people.
