\r\nIf you are a graduate of a university outside Japan and wish to enroll at our graduate school, you must obtain permission to apply from a professor who would supervise your research upon admission (or prospective supervisor for short). But how do you reach out to such a person? That\u2019s where we, the Pre-Admission Support Desk (or PSD for short), comes in. Our task is twofold. First, we make sure that you, the applicant, have proper academic credentials to apply to our graduate schools. Second, having verified your academic credentials, we help you reach out to your prospective supervisor.

\r\nIn order for us to help you, you must create an account in the Pre-admission Support System (or PSS for short) and request a Pre-admission Support. We will then help you find your prospective supervisor, taking the steps laid out in Chart 1.\r\n

II. Who is eligible to use PSD\u2019s services?<\/em><\/h3>\r\n

You have graduated or expect to graduate from a university outside Japan.\r\n<\/li>\r\n
You wish to enroll as a degree-seeking student (Master\u2019s \/ PhD) or a non-degree (research student) at one of the graduate schools listed below.<\/li><\/ol>\r\nTable\uff11\uff1aSchools that require you to use PSD\u2019s intermediary services

III. Caveats<\/em><\/h4>\r\n*

PSD application is designed to help you contact with your prospective supervisor before<\/em> applying to the graduate school you wish to enroll in (hereinafter referred to as the preferred graduate school). Please note that PSD application is different from applying to the preferred graduate school. The latter has a procedure of its own.<\/li>\r\n
Even if you are permitted to contact your prospective supervisor directly as a result of your PSD application, your application to the preferred graduate school may not be permitted depending on the results of direct communication.<\/li>\r\n
Some graduate schools (e.g., Graduate School of Systems and Information Science and Graduate School of Integrated Science and Engineering) use the PSD application solely to determine \u201celigibility to apply\u201d for the entrance examination, not to contact your prospective supervisor. For details, please refer to the application guidelines<\/a><\/u> of your preferred graduate school.<\/li>\r\n
Applicants must submit their PSD application themselves without relying on agents or other intermediaries.\r\n<\/li>\r\n
Currently, the graduate schools not listed in Table 1 are not eligible for PSD applications. Please check the latest admissions information on the website of your preferred graduate school.\r\n<\/li>\r\n
The application deadlines for the Pre-admission support and for the program you wish to enroll in are different. \r\nThe PSD deadline comes six weeks <\/em>before the last day of the application deadline for your applying program. If you miss the PSD application deadline, please refer to the Researcher Information<\/a><\/u> and contact your prospective supervisor directly.<\/li>\r\n

Yes. The deadline for the Pre-admission support is six weeks <\/em>before the final day of the application period for your applying program. For example, if you wish to enroll in the Master’s Program (General Selection) at the Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies in April 2026, the application period is between July 15 and July 22, 2025. Reapplication is generally permitted up to two times (for a total of three applications, including the initial application).
