The embassies then recommend the selected candidates to MEXT through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. MEXT then conducts a secondary screening and selects those applicants who have found recipient universities as scholarship grantees.\r\nCompleting a one-year preparatory education, grantees go on to the university designated by MEXT upon passing its entrance examination.
