Students from APRU* member universities participate in a pre-program lasting over a week. Among these students, selected representatives have the opportunity to participate in a student’s panel discussion at the APRU Presidents’ Meeting, hosted by UCSD with the theme: The Future of Longevity Research: Engaging the Next Generation of Scholars.

*APRU (Association of Pacific Rim Universities): An international university consortium with 61 universities from 18 countries and regions in the Pacific Rim area. Kyushu University has been its member since 2021.

Application Eligibility
To apply, you must:
(1) Be enrolled at Kyushu University during the program period, and an undergraduate student (or graduate student)
*Graduate student can apply, but the majority of cohort would be undergraduate students.
(2) Be able to participate in ISRP and pre-program for the full duration of the program.
(3) Review the ISRP Faculty Mentor List (refer to the link) for your participating labs to ensure that your academic background and experience align with the subject matter and any required knowledge, skills and abilities relevant to the research project. (Participation of students studying engineering, marine sciences, biological sciences, and physical sciences is encouraged by the program.)
(4) Demonstrate a good command of English. Here are the minimum scores needed by program host:
*The program will be conducted in English.
・TOEFL: Internet-based: 83 or Paper-based: 550
・IELTS: Minimum score of 7 (Academic module)
・DET (Duolingo English Test): Minimum score of 115
(5) Obtain approval to participate in this program from your academic supervisor.
(6) Secure funding for participation.
(7) Ensure participation does not interfere with your academic responsibilities (e.g. classes or exams).

Costs Estimated 1,600,000-1,700,000 JPY
Program Fee: $5,500 USD (that includes on-campus housing during the ISRP, visa document processing fee, fees for activities & excursions, and materials & lab fee for equipment needed for your lab research)
plus, visa appointment and SEVIS fees, airfare, meals, travel insurance, risk management service fees and passport application fees (if applicable).
*Costs are subject to fluctuations based on exchange rates and other factors.
Following supports are available for students who travel from Asia to present at the student panel.
・A subsidy of USD 500 for selected student who will be invited to present at the APM student panel, on June 24.
・On-campus housing during pre-ISRP (from June 21 to June 29) will be covered by UCSD.

Application & Selection Process
The selection process for participating in this program is conducted in two stages as follows:
1.Internal Selection at Kyushu University
・Students who wish to participate in the program must fill out and submit the application form with the required information. At that time, they must upload the necessary documents (a recommendation letter from their supervising professor, an academic transcript in English, language proficiency scores, and a CV/resume).
・Based on the submitted information and documents, internal selection in Kyushu University process will be conducted.
・Applicants will be notified of the selection results. Students who pass the internal selection will be nominated by Kyushu University to the program organizers.

*In the application, as you will choose up to three faculty members at UCSD, it is important that you review the ISRP website and its description of the research projects and pay attention to any pre-requisites.
2.Selection by APRU and the program host university (UCSD)
・After Kyushu University nominated the successful student above, the student will receive the link to apply for the program from UCSD (NOTE: that nomination does not guarantee acceptance into the program).
・Based on the submitted information and documents, APRU and UCSD (including the host professors) will conduct a review to determine the final eligibility for program participation.
