The APRU Global Health Program is pleased to offer the
Mini Certificate in Global Aging, which will be held online and free of charge from February to March 2026.
This short, intensive program provides students with an opportunity to learn about population aging as a global issue, together with students from around the world.
No prior background in aging or demography is required.
📅 Program Schedule (Online – 3 Sessions)
※ Due to the start of daylight saving time in the United States, session times in Japan vary.
Participants are advised to double-check the session times in Japan Standard Time (JST).
🔍 Program Overview
The APRU Global Health Mini Certificate in Global Aging is a free, virtual, and interactive training program designed to provide students with a foundational understanding of aging.
⚫ Language of instruction: English
⚫ Lectures by six specialists in aging
⚫ Small-group breakout discussions facilitated by approximately 30 experts
⚫ Online homework assignments (approximately one hour in total)
Participants will explore global population aging from social, economic, health, design, and policy perspectives.
🌏Background and Key Topics
The world is experiencing population aging at an unprecedented pace due to increasing life expectancy and declining birth rates. This program focuses on the following topics:
⚫ Global and regional demographic trends
⚫ Societal, economic, and healthcare impacts of aging
⚫ Ageism and older adults’ participation in society
⚫ Healthy aging, prevention, and active lifestyles
⚫ Innovations in urban, physical, digital, and social design for aging societies
The program encourages students to view aging not only as a challenge, but also as an opportunity, fostering perspectives for age-inclusive societies.
🎯 Target Audience
⚫ Undergraduate and graduate students from APRU member universities
(Our university is an APRU member institution.)
⚫ Students without a specialization in aging or demography
⚫ Particularly recommended for students in:
✔ Economics and Business Administration
✔ Education, Urban Planning, and Public Policy
✔ Architecture and Design
✔ Health and Public Health
✔ International Relations, Law, Philosophy, and related fields
This program is ideal for students who wish to engage with global issues but are unable to commit to a full semester-long course.
💻 Program Structure and Participation Requirements
⚫ Each session includes:
✔ Two 20-minute expert lectures
✔ One 30-minute breakout discussion
⚫ Conducted via Zoom (camera-on required)
⚫ Participants who attend all sessions and complete the required homework will receive a Certificate of Participation
