Application for the following academic year (starting in April, in principle) is open between March and May of the previous year and the initial screening (documentary examination, written test and interview) is conducted at the local Japanese embassies. The embassies then recommend the selected candidates to MEXT through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. MEXT then conducts a secondary screening and selects those applicants who have found recipient universities as scholarship grantees. Completing a one-year preparatory education, grantees go on to the university designated by MEXT upon passing its entrance examination. Kyushu University determines admission based on academic performance at preparatory schools and online interviews.For details please refer to the following websites:
