About the Hackathon
This international hackathon invites teams of 3–5 students to propose policy innovations and process improvements using AI and data science. With mentorship from experts, participants will tackle pressing social issues in Southeast Asia, aiming to develop sustainable, scalable, and impactful solutions.
Benefits for Participants
USD 1,000 for the winning team USD 500 each for the 1st and 2nd runner-up teams Each selected team member will receive full funding for round-trip travel and accommodation from a Southeast Asian city to Bangkok.
For participants traveling from outside Southeast Asia (e.g., Japan), an equivalent amount of funding will be provided. Hands-on experience with real-world policy challenges Skill-building in English communication, presentation, and policy design Opportunities to network with international peers and professionals
Requirements
Participants should be organized by teams, with each consisting of 3 – 5 postgraduate and/or undergraduate students. The students must be enrolled at APRU member universities or any university in Southeast Asia (SEA) for the whole duration of the competition. Teams are highly encouraged to be composed of members of diverse disciplines and gender backgrounds. Preferred disciplines: AI/Impact Data Science, Law, Business Administration, Political Science, and Humanities. Each team should be endorsed by a faculty member from their university. Each member of the applying teams should have the availability to join the online training sessions and in-person hackathon in Bangkok. Speak and write in English fluently

In the application, each team must provide:
Team name, university affiliation, faculty endorser. Participant profiles (majors, genders, academic standing). A short essay (around 300 words in English) to: ▷Describe how they intend to leverage policy, AI, and data for social good in a Southeast Asian context, addressing one of the policy challenge areas listed above.
▷Clearly define the policy problem they intend to address, and demonstrate an understanding of the political, institutional, and socioeconomic context of their selected country.
▷Outline the identified challenge, the proposed intervention, its expected impact, and how their solution would enhance feasibility, scalability, or policy effectiveness.
