【Call for application】Japan-UK RENKEI Early Career Researcher (ECR) Fellowships
RENKEI, Japan-UK Research and Education Network for Knowledge Economy Initiatives which is an inter-university consortium of 12 universities, invites applications for the “RENKEI Climate Adaptation & Resilience Fellowship and Winter School” for Early Career Researchers (ECR) as part of a project to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the network.
The project will offer online mentoring programs, online events, and in-person Winter Schools at Kyoto University for young researchers from member universities who are conducting research related to the following themes.
- Future risks and adaptation in floods and water shortage
- Future risks and adaptation in food production and security
- Managing future risks and building resilience in urban areas
- Future risks and adaption in ecosystems
- Future risks and adaption in human health
- Virtual Mentor and ECR Conference: 22 September 2022, 8-10am / UK 4-6pm Japan.
- In-person Winter School at Kyoto University, from 28 November to 2 December 2022.*
- Virtual RENKEI Programme Closing Conference, 3 March 2023, 8-10am UK / 4-6pm Japan.

The main programme events that will occur are as follows:
All fellows must attend all events in the programme and be willing and available to fully commit to the programme opportunities.
*The RENKEI 10th Anniversary Project budget or the Kyushu University's budget will be used to support round-trip transportation from Kyushu University to Kyoto and hotel accommodation. We will contact the selected candidates as soon as the details are finalized.

【Eligibilities for application】
Applicants must satisfy both 1) and 2) below.
1) Young researchers (including doctoral course students)*
2) Applicant’s current research topic must be related to the theme of this project.
*For the purposes of this programme the definition of ECR will not be rigidly defined and prospective fellows should judge for themselves whether they would derive value from taking part in the programme. As a rough guide, second year of PhD through to around 5 years post-PhD is the broad expected range, but level of experience may differ if the prospective fellow is looking to change focus or work in a different way.
【Numbers to be selected】
Up to 3 (Screening will be conducted internally and by the RENKEI Organizing Committee)*
*Up to 3 students per university from each member university of RENKEI will be selected for the ECR Fellowships. In total, up to 36 students from all the member universities will be selected.

【Notification of selection results】
