Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship

Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship was created by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) to encourage the acceptance of international students from countries worldwide. Its objective is to enable university students to pursue a course of study or research in Japan, thereby cultivating individuals who will serve as a bridge between Japan and their own country, eventually contributing to the development of both countries and, consequently, that of the whole world.

Kyushu University accepts four types of international students: (1) Research students (Graduate Students); (2) Undergraduate students; (3) Students on Japanese Language and Culture Course (JLCC); and (4) Students on the Young Leaders’ Program (YLP).

Government-sponsored international students with excellent grades who wish to advance to a higher level of study may, at the recommendation of their supervisor, apply to extend their scholarship period. MEXT will conduct the selection process and decide whether or not to accept the application. Please discuss the timing of your advancement with your supervisor beforehand.
