Support Project for Former Afghan Students at Kyushu University
Since December 2021, Kyushu University has accepted eight families (22 people) of former students and their families who fled Afghanistan due to the political upheaval, and has been providing them with employment, housing, and livelihood support. Because these students who studied and acquired specialized knowledge at the University were in important positions in the former government, it is impossible for them to return to Afghanistan at this time after the political change.
This project supports these students who have come or will come to Japan in the future to be active in Japan and other countries, demonstrating their expertise and language skills, which will realize their peaceful future.
1.Support Policy
- Support former international students from Afghanistan to settle in Japan (or leave for a third country) and succeed.
- Provide an accompanied support with mentors for employment and others.
- Find opprotunities for them, cooperating with a refugee support organization (Wa no Kai).
- Provide Japanese language course coordinated by International Student Center in Kyushu U.
- Continue to provide housing and employment until they find a place to work.
- With the help of Kyushu University students and local volunteers (Motooka Kokusai Koryu Hiroba), we will continue to offer Japanese language classes for Afghan students and their families. In addition, we will continue to provide lifestyle counseling for them.
2.Support System
In cooperation with local volunteers and related organizations, we support former Afghan students in their activities in Japanese society.
