　九州大学留学課では、2023年2月21日（火）夕方に、留学経験のある卒業生や現役学生を迎えて、留学経験が今のキャリアにどのように繋がり、活かされているかを伝える留学オンラインイベントを開催しました。

イベント登壇者として3人を招き、それぞれ対談形式やプレゼンテーション形式で発表いただきました。発表後には質疑応答の時間も設け、参加学生からは留学や就職活動に関する様々な質問が寄せられました。

　1人目の岩淵さんは現在、人間環境学府の博士後期課程にて研究を行うと同時に、まちづくりに携わるビジネスで幅広い活躍をされています。大学院で行う研究で専門性を高めながら、日々の業務にそれらをフィードバックしていく姿勢は、「研究しながら働く」を体現したキャリアといえます。今後さらに多様な働き方が広がっていく中で、これから社会に出ていく学生にとって、とても参考となるお話でした。

　2人目の古川さんは経済学部を卒業し、現在コンサルタントとして働かれています。イベントでは、現在の仕事内容について説明があり、その後留学経験が今の仕事にどう活きているかをお話しいただきました。その他、国立台湾大学への半年間の交換留学を通して、良かった点・苦労した点や留学期間中の就職活動についても触れ、参加学生にとって留学のより具体的なイメージができるお話でした。

　3人目の原田さんは文学部を卒業し、カナダの大学院で修士号を取得後、現在は日本語講師としてアメリカの大学生に日本語を教えていらっしゃいます。紆余曲折を経て手に入れた、現在の仕事に就くまでのエピソードは非常に印象深いものでした。留学に対する心構えについても、ご自身の経験を踏まえた非常に説得力のあるものでした。周りに後れを取らないよう、卒業・就職と進路を決めていく学生が多くいる中で「それ以外の選択肢もある」というメッセージが伝わる素敵なお話でした。

　イベント終了後には登壇者と参加学生が直接コンタクトを取るなど、新たなつながりも生まれました。また、登壇者から「キャリア形成の中で留学が果たす役割を伝えられる良いイベントだった」と、嬉しいフィードバックをいただきました。

　コロナが落ち着き、留学希望者が増えてきています。そのような中で今回のイベントでは、参加学生も以前より留学を具体的に意識していることが、質疑応答を通しても感じられました。今後も引き続き、留学への不安解消やモチベーション向上に繋がる楽しく有意義なイベントを企画していきます。

【Report_Feb.21(Tue.)】Study Abroad x Job Hunting/Career - There are many career paths for each person.-

　On the evening of February 21 (Tue.), 2023, the Study Abroad Division of Kyushu University hosted a study abroad online event with alumni and current students who have studied abroad to share how their study abroad experience is connected to and utilized in their current careers.

　Three speakers were invited to speak at the event. After their presentations, there was time for a Q&A session and participating students asked a variety of questions related to study abroad and job hunting.

　The first speaker, Mr. Iwabuchi, is currently conducting research in the doctoral course of the Graduate School of Human Environment Studies, and at the same time he is active in a wide range of businesses related to urban development. While developing his expertise through research at the graduate school, he feeds this expertise back into his daily work. As more and more diverse work styles are expected to emerge in the future, this talk was very informative for students who are about to enter the workforce.

　The second speaker, Mr. Furukawa, graduated from the Faculty of Economics and is currently working as a consultant. At the event, he explained about his current job and then talked about how his study abroad experience has helped him in his current job. He also talked about the positive and difficult aspects of his six-month exchange program at National Taiwan University, as well as his job hunting activities during his study abroad period, giving the participating students a more specific image of studying abroad.

　The third speaker, Mr. Harada, graduated from the Faculty of Letters, obtained a master's degree from a graduate school in Canada, and is now teaching Japanese to American university students as a Japanese language instructor. His story of how he got his current job after twists and turns, was very impressive. His attitude toward studying abroad was also very persuasive, based on his own experience. While many students decide their career paths after graduation and employment so as not to fall far behind, this was a wonderful talk that conveyed the message that "there are other options as well.”

　After the event, the speakers and participating students made direct contact with each other, creating new connections. We also received positive feedback from the speakers, saying that the event was a good opportunity to convey the role that studying abroad plays in career development.

　As COVID-19 settles down, the number of people who wish to study abroad is increasing. Under such circumstances, we could sense through the Q&A session at this event that participating students are more specifically aware of studying abroad than before. We will continue to plan fun and meaningful events that will help alleviate their anxiety and increase their motivation to study abroad.
